Etsy Finds - The Hot Trend Is Yellow

I keep looking for the answer to 'what is the hot new color for the rest of 2010?' And everywhere I look, no matter what other colors are mentioned, the answer is yellow, yellow, yellow! Now for me, this is a little bit difficult to accept because I'm not naturally drawn to yellow. So I went searching on Etsy for the very best of yellow......

And boy did I find it! Now my mouth is watering for yellow! Here's just a sampling....

Etsy Finds - Teacher Gifts

Please, let's all agree now to stop the madness! Let's stop buying ugly, useless, tacky teacher gifts!

My aunt and uncle were both high school principals and one day they brought over a huge box of teacher gifts they had collected over the years to my Granny - because these were gifts that only a Granny could love. And truth to tell, Granny only loved a few of them herself because despite having Granny taste, she had good Granny taste!

If I were a teacher, I would like to be excited by the last day of school - not dreading it. So with that in mind, I have trawled through ETSY looking for cool, fun or just useful teacher gifts. And yes, I admit, I'm still a sucker for the apple for the teacher motif - but that doesn't mean it can't be cool!

Forgotten Things At Senter Studios

So I know that it's confusing since my blog is called Sweet Daisy-May but my one Etsy store is called sweetdaisymay without a hypen and I happen to have a bunch of other Etsy stores that have nothing to do with Daisies! Or May for that matter....

So here are all the stores:
Ophelia Weeping  Romantic Jewelry With An Edge
Peridot Supplies   Gemstones, Jewelry and Craft Supplies
Senter Studios      Photo Letter Art and Fine Art Prints
Heather Lori Designs Logos, Customizable Cards and Digital Scrapbooking Supplies

And of course, the little store I have just started up with my daughters age 9 and 14:
Sweet Daisymay   Hair Accessories For Big and Little Girls

The intent of this blog is to highlight everything tasteful, beautiful and desirable on the web in the realm of arts, crafts and Etsy but every once in awhile I will highlight some of the projects that I'm working on too...

FORGOTTEN THINGS - I have an obsession with forgotten things. Signs on the highway that no longer point to existing locations, abandoned houses, historic markers that no-one bothers to read any more... As a photographer, I have begun to catalogue some of the 'forgotten things' in my rural neighbourhood. To me, they are both romantic and forlorn.

Tutorial - Tattered Fabric Roses

If those beautiful bib necklaces have you inspired to try your own, over at Everyday Chaos there is a wonderful tutorial for making rolled fabric roses - a perfect base for a bib necklace.

Etsy Finds - The Statement Necklace

It's quite simply the hottest trend in jewelry right now - the Statement Necklace. Whether it's a bib necklace made from rolled fabric roses or masses of charms and upcycled enamel pins, these necklaces combine drama and whimsy to make, well, a statement!

These necklaces are bold and even a little bit eccentric so they are perfect for summer weather and slim little tank or chemise.

Tutorial - Singed Ruffled Rose Rings

Yes, it's still ruffles time! I adore this blog and the author's Etsy site and I adore these sweet little fabric rings. I've been making singed fabric roses for awhile but I hadn't thought of making rings out of them.

To view the tutorial, take a look at Mrs Priss' Springy Rings and don't forget to take a look around her blog. She has some wonderful Anthropologie inspired jewelry tutorials.

Tutorial - Crepe Paper Bouquet

While I was on the topic of ruffles, I came across this great tutorial by A Field Journal and thought it would go perfect with my ruffle theme.

I have to admit that when I saw this beautiful Crepe Paper Bouquet I was just blown away! I can't wait to give it a try and I encourage you to take a look around this beautiful blog before heading over to the tutorial.

Etsy Finds - All Ruffled Up

Well, I know the trend has been around for a bit, but I am just seeing so many beautiful things with ruffles! Not girly, fussy, victorian ones - flat, rough, dynamic and modern ones!

So, this blog is in its infancy but I think you can see that it is Etsy obsessed so without further ado, here are some of my favorites spring/summer ruffles!

Etsy Finds - Poppies

I am obsessed with Etsy! There are so many beautiful and unique things. When I was little, we travelled a great deal in Europe and the US and I was always so excited to find new stores and trinkets unique to the area. Over the years, that has changed. My family in England shops at a lot of the same stores we have here and every mall in Canada and the US is depressingly the same.

And then I discovered Etsy and it was love at first site. I mean sight! Beauty, originality - I couldn't believe it.

So what makes me qualified to recommend items and sellers to you? The hours and hours and hours I spend on Etsy just looking around! I could probably write a thesis on it by now....

So, without further ado, here is my first Etsy Finds post - Obsessed With Poppies. Maybe that's not too original, but I really am and it's a fun first start!

Little Green Room  is a jewelry designer with a number of poppy items but this bold necklace really jumped out at me - partly because it isn't the expected red and black.

Jewelry by Natsuko creates metal and enamel jewelry that is both modern and timeless. And here I go again avoiding the traditional red in favour of luscious aqua in this dainty modern ring.

Allisa Jacobs creates zipper pouches, bags and baby gifts in fresh, modern colours. And there - I've managed to avoid red all together with this wonderful zipper bag and orange felt poppy brooch!

Welcome To Sweet Daisy-May

Welcome to my brand new blog! While I have a blog for my photography business - Senter Studios Photography - I wanted to create a new blog dedicated to the art and craft side of my work as well as my jewelry making and other ventures.

I will also be seardhing the web for wonderful art and craft tutorials and great Etsy finds!

Currently, I am a stay at home Mommy of Summer (14), Holly (9) and Stephen (2). On the side, I run Senter Studios Photography, create art prints and Letter Art at http://www.senterstudios.etsy.com/ and jewelry at http://www.opheliaweeping.etsy.com/ . Logo design and photo business card printing are at my third store http://www.heatherloridesigns.etsy.com/ and jewelry supplies are at http://peridotsupplies.etsy.com/ !

And just to make things interesting, my daughters and I are starting a new Etsy business called Sweet Daisy May, same as the blog except for the hyphen (it's a blogger thing). In this new venture, my daughters are creating sweet hair accessories and running the show with design and practical guidance from me.

BTW, here's my Daisy May - my youngest daughter Holly. She has always had a mass of wild blond hair and I started calling her Daisy May when she was just little - just like Daisy May from the Lil Abner comics.
